The plaza at Port Coquitlam Community Centre, officially renamed Terry Fox Hometown Square, StreetBond colour fields with DecoMark medallions marking the days and miles of the Marathon of Hope.

Terry Fox grew up in Port Coquitlam, and the plaza at the community centre that bears his name was officially renamed Terry Fox Hometown Square. It is where the community gathers, where children play and where events are held. As part of that transformation Square One was engaged to install StreetBond and DecoMark surface treatments across the plaza.

StreetBond, a water-based acrylic coating, carries the colour field, the broad zones that set the character of the square. DecoMark, a preformed thermoplastic for custom graphics, carries the detail: cut medallions with imagery and text tied to Terry Fox and the Marathon of Hope. Each medallion marks a day of the run, the date, the place, the day count, the miles run that day and the running total, around the silhouette of Terry running.

The photograph shows two of the medallions in dark red with a blue ring and white lettering, set along a brick-pattern route that winds across a sand-coloured field with shapes in teal. The manufacturer publishes StreetBond for asphalt and concrete with an anti-skid aggregate, and DecoMark with the same durability as standard road-marking thermoplastic. A municipality planning a commemorative plaza should ask for a coating for the field and cut thermoplastic for anything that has to carry words.
