DecoMark sensory play designs and TrafficPatterns crosswalks for a brand-new Island school, an interactive pathway built for longevity, completed ahead of the September 2025 opening.

South Langford Elementary opened in September 2025, a new school in one of the fastest-growing districts in the Capital Region. Square One was asked to install its pavement graphics and safety markings ahead of the opening. The scope split two ways: DecoMark for the sensory play designs and identity graphics on the arrival surfaces, and TrafficPatterns for the crosswalks at the school.

The split is the one Square One recommends for most new schools. DecoMark, the preformed thermoplastic for fully custom graphics, carries the play designs and school identity; TrafficPatterns, the preformed thermoplastic for crossings, carries the markings where children meet vehicles. The manufacturer publishes both as heat-fused to the pavement with the durability of standard road-marking thermoplastic, and TrafficPatterns at 125 mil with anti-skid elements throughout.

A school opening is a hard deadline. The install was worked back from the September opening: layout surveying, pattern plotting and substrate inspection over several days, the decorative fields first, then the crosswalks beside them so the two did not conflict. The photograph shows the sensory pathway, an alphabet snake in coloured segments winding up a fenced asphalt path. A district planning a new school should specify DecoMark for the identity surfaces and TrafficPatterns for the safety-critical markings, and put both on the opening schedule early.
