StreetPrint stamped asphalt in red with yellow borders: a defined, visible crossing for a school zone, where a crossing you can't miss is the whole point.

A school crossing has one job: to be seen. Grandview Heights School specified StreetPrint stamped asphalt for a new crosswalk, and the result is a red tile-pattern crossing with wide yellow borders on the road at the school's parking lot. A crossing that is visually distinct from the road around it makes drivers slow earlier, and one that stays distinct through the winter keeps doing so.

StreetPrint is an asphalt imprinting system. A heated steel template is pressed into the asphalt so the pattern is built into the surface, then StreetBond colour is rolled into the imprint. The texture reads as different from the surrounding road before a driver registers the colour; the colour on top does the rest. The manufacturer publishes a 10–20 year service life, a slip-resistant textured surface that is snowplow and de-icing salt safe, and retroreflective options for crosswalks.

The photographs show the crossing from the sidewalk with the pedestrian sign in the foreground, and straight on, where the red field and the yellow borders read from the far end of the lot. A school or district planning a crossing should ask for a stamped, coloured surface rather than painted bars, and for the border colour to be part of the design from the start.
