TrafficPatternsXD crosswalks within the Brighouse Station development area and across No. 3 Road, heavy-duty decorative marking installed at TransLink's Canada Line terminus in Richmond.

Brighouse Station sits at the south end of the Canada Line, where No. 3 Road runs through one of the busier transit interchanges on the Lower Mainland: bus bays, taxi ranks, rideshare pickups, and pedestrians from early morning until midnight. The brief was TrafficPatternsXD across the pedestrian transition zones, within the station development area and across No. 3 Road itself.

TrafficPatternsXD is a heavy-duty preformed thermoplastic: 150-mil aggregate-reinforced sheets, heated and stamped into the top layer of prepared asphalt, with new anti-skid elements exposed as the surface wears. The manufacturer positions it for transit hubs and major intersections. The colour runs through the full depth of the sheet rather than sitting on top, so wear from buses and delivery vehicles does not erase the marking the way it erases paint.

Transit sites do not close for pavement work. The crew worked in coordinated overnight windows, staging after the last revenue train and clearing before morning service. Before the sheets went down the substrate was assessed and prepared, with oil, adhesive residue and surface contamination removed in the same window, because a thermoplastic install over a contaminated substrate is a failed install waiting to surface.

The photographs show the crossing in a pale grey large-format tile pattern with a white border under the Canada Line guideway, a train on the guideway above and a delivery van waiting at the line. A transit agency planning markings at a station should ask three things: how the material reads under the site's lighting, how long it lasts against the maintenance window, and whether the install fits the overnight operating gap.
