Rail ties in tan thermoplastic set into dark stamped asphalt, a nod to the city's railway history, installed March 2025 in TrafficPatternsXD at the heritage block in the City of Langley.

The crossing at the heritage block nods to the City of Langley's railway history, and the design is a track seen from above: two continuous white rails with a run of tan ties between them, set into a field of dark stamped asphalt across the street. It reads as a crosswalk at a glance and as a piece of local history a moment later.

Square One installed it in March 2025 in TrafficPatternsXD, an aggregate-reinforced preformed thermoplastic. Each tie is a cut sheet, heated and stamped into the prepared asphalt so it sits flush with the surface rather than on top of it. The manufacturer publishes the sheet at 150 mil, heavier than standard TrafficPatterns, with new anti-skid elements exposed as it wears, and positions it for the crossings that carry the most traffic.

One photograph looks along the crossing toward the intersection, the ties receding like a track; the other is close enough to show the tan panels fused flush into the black asphalt beside the white lines. A municipality with a story to tell in the pavement should ask for a design that works as a marking first, and for TrafficPatternsXD where the crossing carries daily traffic.
