Oak-leaf DecoMark decals along the asphalt sidewalks of the Reunion housing complex in Murrayville: custom wayfinding and horizontal surface graphics that show best in dappled spring light.
Walk through the Reunion housing complex in Murrayville, Langley, in spring or summer and you notice the decorative sidewalk work in the dappled light under the trees: clusters of green oak leaves set into the asphalt paths at intervals along the way. They are custom DecoMark decals, installed as wayfinding and horizontal surface graphics across the development's pedestrian areas.
DecoMark is a preformed thermoplastic for custom graphics. The leaves were manufactured off site to the design, then thermally bonded to the asphalt on installation day, which is why they hold their edges and colour where a painted sidewalk graphic fades within a season. The manufacturer publishes DecoMark with a full colour spectrum and the same durability as standard road-marking thermoplastic.
The photographs show a leaf cluster on the path in front of the houses, and one close up, the fused sheet lying flush with the asphalt. Housing developments tend to spend on buildings and landscaping and treat the paths as purely functional; a small repeated graphic gives a place an identity residents notice every day. A developer planning a complex should ask for DecoMark where a graphic has to survive foot traffic and weather.
