Natures Walk Townhomes: StreetPrint and StreetBond decorative driveways

Natures Walk is a townhouse development in BC. We were specified to deliver the decorative driveway surfaces using StreetPrint® stamped asphalt and StreetBond® coatings: our standard specification for premium residential hardscape applications.

The product quality expectations on the project were high. Natures Walk is a development where the exterior finishes, landscaping, and common area surfaces are part of the value proposition. The driveway treatment needed to match that standard.

What went in

Square One's photograph of the roadway accents at Natures Walk was taken with the crew still on site: cones out, drop sheets down, a bucket of coating at the edge of the frame. The junction in front of the garage doors is stamped in a grid of large dark grey squares set in a pale grey field, and the roadway running away from it on both sides is a charcoal brick pattern, all of it one continuous asphalt surface. Grey on grey, with the pattern doing the work that colour usually does: the grid tells drivers they are entering a shared court, and the brick tells them the lane belongs to the homes.

StreetPrint + StreetBond for residential driveways

The StreetPrint and StreetBond combination produces a residential driveway surface that rivals the appearance of natural stone or unit pavers while outperforming both in BC's climate conditions.

StreetPrint is applied to hot asphalt, impressing a defined texture pattern (cobblestone, herringbone, European fan, or other profiles) while the material is still workable. The pattern creates depth and visual interest that bare asphalt cannot replicate.

StreetBond is applied after the asphalt has cured, providing the colour coat and protective sealant layer that defines the finished appearance. The range of available colours allows precise matching to the development's architectural palette.

On service life, we cite the manufacturer of both systems: 10–20 years for StreetPrint, and an 8+ year life cycle for the StreetBond colour coat, which is refreshed rather than replaced. The asphalt substrate beneath the coating may last considerably longer.

The systems

The manufacturer's published facts, restated. StreetPrint: a heated template pressed into new or existing asphalt, so the pattern is built in rather than painted on; a slip-resistant texture that is snowplow and de-icing salt safe; custom patterns and colours. StreetBond: a water-based acrylic coating for asphalt or concrete, with more than 50 standard colours plus custom mixing, an anti-skid aggregate and a UV-stable finish. Hardscape as part of the development value

The decision to specify decorative driveways at Natures Walk reflects a calculation that an increasing number of BC developers are making: the delta between standard asphalt and decorated asphalt is small relative to the visual impact on the finished product.

Buyers notice driveways. A development where the driveways look as considered as the architecture reads as higher quality at the same price point. Windsor Gate in Coquitlam is the same specification in brick red and cream.

For a developer

• Use pattern where colour would be loud. A grey palette like Natures Walk's suits a contemporary elevation; the stamping supplies the contrast.
• Schedule the stamping with the paving. The pattern goes into the asphalt while it is hot (fresh from the paver, or reheated in place on an existing surface) and the colour follows once the asphalt has cured.
• Keep the specification with the strata documents. Pattern name and colour codes make a later phase or a recoat a match rather than a guess.
