A park pathway coated in StreetBond SR: all the benefits of StreetBond 150 with solar-reflective characteristics that keep the surface cooler underfoot. Installed May 2023.
A dark asphalt path in full sun gets hot underfoot. This park pathway in Osoyoos was coated in StreetBond SR in May 2023, the solar-reflective version of the StreetBond coating: the benefits of StreetBond 150, with a surface that reflects more of the sun and stays cooler underfoot. On a path in the Interior, that is the property that matters.
StreetBond is a water-based acrylic pavement coating, published by its manufacturer for asphalt and concrete with an anti-skid aggregate for wet conditions, UV-stable colour and an 8+ year life cycle that is recoated rather than replaced. On a park path the coating does two jobs at once: it marks the route clearly against the lawn, and it gives the path a colour that reads as part of the park rather than a strip of road.
The photographs show the path in a warm terracotta tone leaving the parking lot, splitting around a lawn toward the playground and the park building, and curving up the hill beside a retaining wall. A parks department in the Interior should ask for StreetBond SR where a path or plaza takes full sun, and the standard StreetBond 150 where it does not.
