A veterans crosswalk on Queens Avenue in New Westminster
By Square One Paving · November 5, 2026 · 2 min read

New Westminster has a new veterans crosswalk on Queens Avenue at Sixth Street, beside the Royal Westminster Regiment's Armoury. Square One installed it in TrafficPatterns™ preformed thermoplastic, finished in time for Remembrance Day. This year's procession leaves the Armoury for City Hall, so the parade starts at the crossing and passes over it.
The ribbon cutting
The ribbon cutting is planned for Saturday, November 7, at noon, and the community is invited to the short ceremony. John Murray, a 93-year-old veteran, will cut the ribbon.

The Legion's centennial project
The crosswalk is part of the centennial year of the New Westminster Legion, Branch 2 of the Royal Canadian Legion, which sponsored it. The City of New Westminster supported the project with a grant.
Set into the road
TrafficPatterns is an aggregate-reinforced preformed thermoplastic. The design is cut into sheets before it reaches the site, and our crew heats each sheet with specialized equipment until it fuses to the pavement, so the crosswalk becomes part of the road surface. It is the same system as the Every Child Matters artwork we installed in Hyack Square in 2023.
